Why do we talk about workforce management and not just time management?

If we use the expression Workforce Management at Inetum, it’s not just out of affection for the English language. It reveals the full scope of the new features built into a management application suite around four key processes: Forecast, Plan, Execute and Measure. We have moved on from a solution historically centered on administrative management to an application integrated into the daily life of employees, making life easier for all teams, including managers.
But let’s take the story from the beginning. The very first function expected of time management software is the following: to produce a payroll that reflects the reality of the work performed. That’s the basis.

Hundreds of specific cases

However, even at this stage, the system is highly complex, with hundreds of specific cases, regulations and industry agreements to be respected… and a corporate culture that needs to be integrated. Not to mention “surprises” such as the current crisis, which calls for flexibility in the organization of working hours, and the rapid deployment of telecommuting.

We’ve been automating these tasks for a long time now. For many companies, these processes are already in place, even if they are not necessarily digitized. An essential first step, but insufficient today, especially in the context of high mobility and remote working.

Strategic planning

HR needs have evolved towards strategic business planning: what is the workload, what staffing levels are available, what are the gaps between needs and mobilized resources…? With the possibility of checking at the end of the cycle that everything has been done correctly.

This shift from compliance to anticipation has significantly broadened the scope of time management. The result is a very open solution, to which everyone has access.

We can distinguish three main types of user: employees (who can exchange activity windows with their colleagues, enter their vacations, etc.), managers for whom the application becomes a dashboard, and HR managers, who are responsible for all these processes.

Automation

Workforce Management applications require little training for users, and are intuitive and easy to learn. Our HR customers, who are keen on digital transformation, see them as the embodiment of “useful digital”.

The greater the number of employees, the more the subject is at the heart of the company’s concerns. Beyond a few hundred people, valuable time and productivity are lost if tasks are not automated.

Depending on your sector of activity, scheduling is more or less difficult. This is the case in the distribution and retail banking sectors and retail banking sectors, where the sheer number of establishments makes the stakes very high. Generally speaking, if you have physical points of sale, the stakes are high. The same applies to businesses subject to seasonal variations.

“There are three types of user: employees, managers and HR directors. After email, this is undoubtedly the application that employees open most often!”

A data-driven company

A Workforce Management solution is part of the toolbox of a 21st century company. This enterprise is collaborative, data-driven and exemplary in providing its employees with intelligently constructed applications that simplify their daily lives and help them to work better. As you can see, time and activity management is just one component of a Workforce Management solution: as the latter touches on forecasting, planning and performance measurement, it generates infinitely more value.
